ACCOSS believes that every child should have access to education as a fundamental right – regardless of the family’s financial situation. By financing the education of the children, ACCOSS is directly alleviating poverty, allowing the family to spend the scarce funds they have on food and basic living needs. Supporting higher education for the children has long reaching effect in both the child and the family unit.
Although just a new-comer in Kenya, ACCOSS has already found a number of children in desperate situations struggling to go to school. From impoverished families in the slums and ghettos of Nairobi, these children stand little to no chance of getting to school let alone actually learning and achieving something.
Currently, ACCOSS supports over 40 students from poor backgrounds to get to school and learn without hindrance. In most cases, where the family might struggle with daily necessities, the child will still be able to learn because of the support we’ve given them. This generally includes breakfast and lunch at the school – ensuring at least 1 square meal a day if no other.
